Wapsi Squirrel Skin Zonked is a premium American pine squirrel skin that has been professionally cut into narrow Zonker strips. The short, dense and naturally mottled fur combines outstanding movement with a compact profile, making it one of the finest natural materials for tying small to medium-sized streamers, Slumpbusters, leeches, Sculpin imitations and many other predator flies. Thanks to its thin leather hide, every strip moves freely even during the slowest retrieve, creating an incredibly lifelike swimming action.
The naturally dense fur contains both a soft underfur and longer guard hairs that create subtle contrast and added realism. Each strip is ready to use directly from the package, allowing fly tyers to produce dozens of streamers without any additional preparation.
What is Wapsi Squirrel Skin Zonked?
This material consists of a complete pine squirrel hide pre-cut into Zonker strips approximately 2–3 mm wide. The short, dense fur creates a more compact silhouette than rabbit Zonker strips while maintaining excellent movement underwater. The exceptionally thin leather makes the strips highly flexible and very easy to tie.
The remaining areas of the hide can also be trimmed for natural dubbing, composite dubbing loops, collars and thoraxes, allowing almost every part of the skin to be used efficiently.
