The Arctic fox, widely distributed in all the lands of the Arctic Circle, is a small animal, with long and thick hair and a particularly thick tail. There are two color phases for this species, summer characterized by a dark color between brown and gray and winter tending to white. The summer one is called Mutation Fox, the winter one is Blue Fox or Shadow Fox. Similar to the polar bear, when the cold sets in, the arctic fox sheds its fur to adapt to the winter season in order to survive between snow and ice.
As with red and gray foxes, arctic fox fur has two main uses in artificial fly tying. The long hairs on the tail, and more generally those on the back, have a very interesting and natural movement in the water, they are mainly used for tying streamers. While the hypodermic part, softer, can be used for tying trout fly bodies. Arctic Shadow Fox Patch is particularly suitable for painting and offers bright and homogeneous colors. Available in fourteen color variations.
