What is Semperfli Kapok?
Semperfli Kapok is a natural plant-based dubbing made from the hollow fibres of the Ceiba pentandra tree. Unlike most natural animal-based fly tying materials, Kapok features an ultra-fine texture, exceptionally low water absorption and excellent natural buoyancy.
The hollow fibres trap air, helping dry flies stay afloat longer while allowing slim, even bodies with a natural matte finish. This makes Kapok an excellent choice for realistic imitations of small aquatic insects.
Semperfli Kapok twists easily onto the tying thread, distributes evenly and provides excellent control when building smooth bodies. It is particularly well suited for dry flies, CDC patterns and emergers where natural presentation is essential.

INTERESTING FACTThe fibres of Ceiba pentandra are naturally hollow and extremely lightweight. Before modern synthetic materials became available, they were widely used as filling for life jackets and other flotation equipment because they trap air and absorb very little water. |
