Whiting Pro Grade Saddle
Professional Dry Fly Saddle with Outstanding Value
Whiting Pro Grade Saddle is the most affordable full dry fly saddle in the Whiting Farms lineup, offering an exceptional balance of quality, feather yield and price. Its long, uniform hackles feature thin, supple stems and dense barbs, allowing multiple flies to be tied from a single feather. This makes it an outstanding choice for fly tyers who want professional performance without investing in the higher grades.
Like every Whiting dry fly saddle, the Pro Grade Saddle is produced from the same world-renowned genetic bloodline known for excellent flotation, flexible stems and consistent barb density. Compared with Bronze, Silver and Gold grades, the primary difference is feather quantity and total tying yield—not the quality of the individual feathers themselves.
What is the Whiting Pro Grade Saddle?
Whiting Pro Grade Saddle is a genetically bred rooster saddle developed specifically for premium dry fly tying. The feathers feature long, supple quills, very little webbing and high barb density, producing lightweight hackles with exceptional floating performance.
Unlike neck capes, saddles contain a large number of feathers in very similar sizes. This makes them ideal for fly tyers producing large quantities of dry flies on the same hook sizes. A single feather can often tie several flies, dramatically increasing efficiency while reducing material waste.
Pro Grade is an excellent introduction to Whiting dry fly saddles. You receive the same premium feather quality found throughout the Whiting range, while the main difference from higher grades is the overall feather count and tying yield.

FLYFISHING.BG RECOMMENDATIONIf you mainly tie dry flies in a few similar hook sizes, the Whiting Pro Grade Saddle is often a better investment than a cape. The long feathers allow several flies to be tied from each hackle, reducing material waste while significantly increasing tying speed. If your priority is covering the widest possible hook-size range, however, a Whiting cape remains the better choice. |
