Whiting Bronze Saddle
One of the Finest Dry Fly Saddles in the World
Whiting Bronze Saddle has become the benchmark for premium dry fly hackle and is trusted by professional fly tyers around the world. Thanks to its exceptionally long, uniform feathers, a single feather can often be used to tie multiple flies, making this saddle one of the most economical choices for production tying.
The Bronze Grade offers an outstanding balance of feather quantity, hook-size range and value. Whether you tie dozens or hundreds of dry flies each season, it represents one of the smartest long-term investments in premium genetic hackle.
What is the Whiting Bronze Saddle?
Whiting Bronze Saddle is a genetically bred rooster saddle specifically developed for tying dry flies. Unlike neck capes, saddle hackles are considerably longer and more uniform in size, allowing several flies to be tied from a single feather.
Most feathers are ideally suited for hook sizes approximately #12–18, covering the most popular trout dry fly sizes. Long, thin quills, dense stiff barbs and minimal webbing produce beautifully proportioned hackles with exceptional flotation.
Whiting's grading system is based primarily on feather quantity rather than feather quality. This means that Bronze Grade delivers the same outstanding individual feather quality found throughout the Whiting Farms range.

FLYFISHING.BG RECOMMENDATIONIf you primarily tie dry flies within a similar hook-size range, the Whiting Bronze Saddle is often a better investment than a neck cape. Its long feathers allow multiple flies to be tied from each hackle, dramatically reducing material waste and improving tying efficiency. If, however, you need the broadest possible hook-size range, a cape remains the better option. |
