AHREX SA258 – CA Bendback Hook for Bend Back & Weedless Patterns
The AHREX SA258 is a purpose-built saltwater hook from the Salt series, developed in collaboration with Australian fly tyer Chris Adams for modern Bend Back and Weedless fly patterns. Its distinctive geometry allows anglers to fish confidently around heavy structure, submerged timber and dense weed without the need for a traditional weed guard.
Featuring an oversized Straight Eye, chemically sharpened Needle Point, Micro Barb and the highly corrosion-resistant A-Steel Finish, the SA258 is engineered for demanding saltwater environments. The oversized hook eye accommodates heavy Shock Tippet while adding just enough forward weight to help flies swim head-first—an action that often triggers aggressive reaction strikes from predatory fish.
The SA258 was born from Australian fly tyer Chris Adams' years of targeting Barramundi in dense timber and heavy weed. During development, Ahrex also consulted with Bob Clouser and Steve Silverio, both long-time advocates of Bend Back flies. The result is a modern hook design that lets anglers fish deep into structure with confidence—without relying on a weed guard.
