JMC Australian Opossum Natural
Premium Australian Opossum Fur for Realistic Nymphs, Emergers and Wet Flies
JMC Australian Opossum Natural is premium natural Australian opossum fur, one of the most versatile natural dubbing materials available to modern fly tyers. Combining an exceptionally soft underfur with fine guard hairs, it creates lifelike dubbed bodies with a natural buggy appearance that makes it ideal for nymphs, emergers, wet flies and realistic dry fly patterns.
The natural shades range from light cinnamon to dark brown, closely matching many aquatic insects without the need for additional dyeing. Whether used on its own or blended with synthetic fibres, Australian Opossum creates durable, breathable dubbing with outstanding realism.
What is Australian Opossum?
Australian Opossum fur combines a dense, soft underfur with longer, fine guard hairs. The underfur creates smooth, easy-to-control dubbing, while the guard hairs produce the subtle buggy texture that imitates legs, gills and movement on aquatic insects. This unique fibre combination has made Australian Opossum a favourite material for classic nymphs and wet flies.
Although primarily used as a dubbing material, the longer fibres can also be used for small wings, tails, streamer collars and even salmon or Steelhead fly bodies. Few natural materials offer such a broad range of applications while maintaining such a natural appearance.

FLYFISHING.BG RECOMMENDATIONIf you're looking for a natural dubbing material with more life than Muskrat, yet without the coarse texture of rabbit fur, Australian Opossum is an outstanding choice. The soft underfur creates smooth, easy-to-control dubbed bodies, while the longer guard hairs produce a subtle buggy effect. Compared to Hare's Mask, Australian Opossum is softer and easier to dub, making it an excellent material for realistic nymphs, emergers and wet flies. |
Classic Fly Patterns Using Australian Opossum
Australian Opossum is widely used for nymphs, emergers, wet flies, Scud and Sowbug patterns, and appears in classic flies such as the Ausable Wulff. Thanks to its combination of soft underfur and fine guard hairs, it creates naturally breathing dubbed bodies that look exceptionally lifelike underwater.
