Red But Ant is a dry fly designed to imitate an ant – a natural and often overlooked food source for trout and other surface-feeding fish. Its compact profile and contrast between the dark body and red accent make it an effective pattern when terrestrial insects are being blown or washed into the water.


Ant imitations are particularly effective during the warmer months, when wind and rain bring ants from bankside vegetation onto the water. Red But Ant is an excellent choice for presentations close to the bank and in smaller rivers when fish are actively feeding on the surface.
